Associate
The IDTA Associate is the first level of the Association’s professional dance teaching qualifications, it prepares the candidate to teach dance in their chosen genre. The examination can be taken as a whole or in a modular format over a period of time.

How will you be assessed?
The Associate qualification is a practical examination conducted by an IDTA appointed Examiner. Candidates will present a portfolio, will be asked to demonstrate this dance style, and answer questions.
Prerequisites
Candidates must be 18 years or over.
Future progression
Higher level professional teaching qualifications are available at Licentiate level and Fellowships level.
Fees
Candidates for IDTA dance teaching qualifications are required to apply using the IDTA Professional Application Form, and pay the examination fee in advance. Training fees are set by the teacher.
Membership status
Street Dance, Rock 'n' Roll, Line Dancing and Cheerleading are "non-core subjects". Candidates who successfully pass the Associate qualification are invited to be members of the IDTA, on payment of an annual subscription. Members holding an Associate in any of these dance styles may enter candidates for examinaitions in that particular dance style only. Members holding an Associate qualification in these dance styles are ordinary members of the IDTA who may attend the Annual General Meeting but do not hold voting rights.

The examination syllabus is listed in the "Professional and Amateur Dance Syllabus". The techniques for these genres are published in the IDTA "Street Dance Guide", "Rock 'n' Roll" by Lynda King, plus "Technique of Line Dancing" & "Cheer Technique" by Jean Eve & Lynda Blyth-Phillips.
